UPDATE - 10 December 2004

I added a link to the Mods page with info about Wheel Specifications for Nissans.
Info borrowed from Takakaira.com.

In related news I have decided on a new set of wheels for my Sil... They will be the titanium silver Buddy Club P1s in 17" x 8" wide. They should fill the guards nicely and look very tough while they're at it. If anyone would like to buy a set of 16" Volk Racing CV-Pro wheels with tyres, please drop me a line. Of course there are only 3 centre caps. I'll get pics up once they are off my Sil and all cleaned up.

UPDATE - 30 November 2004

I'm happy to announce that I now own my very first domain name daSilvia.org. As I'm not a complete internet/computer geek I don't know much about servers and the like, so all that happens when you type in daSilvia.org is that it redirects to my ISPs webspace.

In other very cool news, Dave of the former "Dave's Nissan Silvia Australia Site" has gratiously allowed his website to be mirrored. Click here or on the logo to open the site in a new window. Thanx to Michael for contacting Dave.

In aid of the new site name I made up a stencil for my intercooler in the same font as the daSilvia.org logo. It didn't come out too bad.

UPDATE - 23 November 2004

Happy 2nd Anniversary to da Sil... The time has flown.

So what's the latest goss? Well, the Blitz DSBC arrived from Japan safe and sound. I installed it, with the valuable advice from Terry, and I am glad to report that it works well. On the Ultra Tune Kalgoorlie dyno a run with the boost control off was first performed to see that everything was hunky-dory. 167rwhp was a good start. At least I wasn't losing hp. Then after flicking over to High Boost, which was set to approximately 1 bar, a run of 184rwhp was recorded. Not bad I guess, but not the 200rwhp I was after. The air/fuel ratio showed it being very rich at the top end, so if some fuel could be taken out more hp should be available.
By chance, Terry had an Apexi Super Air Flow Converter (S-AFC) which he no longer required. What this ingenious little device does is change the signal that the air flow meter sends to the computer. If the computer thinks there is less air available then it will inject less fuel. Anyway, after plumbing this in, not helped by me cutting the wrong wires, another dyno run was aah... run. While Ultra Tune Dave was holding the car at a certain rev range, Terry would adjust the corresponding dial on the S-AFC to "lean" off the air and therefore fuel. The final result... 198.7rwhp... Dohh!! I only needed 1.3hp more for my wank factor goal.

Recently I have been having problems with the motor coughing and spluttering while running on high boost. It has been suggested that it may be the spark plug spark blowing out because of the higher boost. With the boost control off this problem does not occur.

I go through phases and am well known for my ability to start projects and never finish them. My current unfinished project is to fit the Polk Audio 3 way split speakers and 12" sub woofer from my old Applause into the Silvia. I started with amazing ideas to fibreglass some kick panels for the 4" and tweeter. So far all I have done is fibreglass the back of the passenger side kick panel.
The boot is another story... As the Sil's boot is very shallow, approx. 30cm, it makes it very difficult to mount a 12" sub without using up extra room, as it really needs to be on an angle to fit. My aim is to keep the boot as usable as possible (I need room for a suitcase), so I will need to either use a 10" sub or change my ideas about building a box for the 12". More doing and less thinking required on this one, I reckon.

I've been having horror steering wheel shake at speeds over 80kph lately. It doesn't seem to matter how many times I get the tyres balanced, the shake will return after a few kilometres of driving. The front tyres have been wearing badly anyway, so a full alignment and new front tyres are on the cards. Suspension mods in the way of new radius arm bushes and related components are also on the to do list.

I got my hands on some R32 GTS-T Skyline seats in very good condition. What a difference!! Other than sitting me higher than I would really like they are totally awesome!! It is so nice to sit IN a seat that has a bit of support, instead of sitting ON the crap stock seats. I'll get some pics of them up in the future.

We've lost even more of the import locals recently. James, Terry & Rosie have made the decision to leave our little town. So best wishes to them and bye-bye to the grey CA180, red RX7 and the black SR180. Have fun people.

So what's left on the list...

  • Dump/Front pipe from the turbo. Looks like I'll need this to get my 200rwhp, although I may be up for a turbo soon and a fresh turbo, of course it will be bigger, should produce some decent power anyway. I guess the stock dump/front pipe is always going to be a restriction though.
  • New Paintwork. I'd really like to get a Nismo style front bumper, as I reckon they suit the Sil without being over the top.
  • BikiROM or LumpyROM. I've enquired about getting a Bad Biki board for my Sils computer. I mainly want it for the option of a valet mode, but the map he will ship with it may also match my car better than the stock map. Fingers crossed.
