![]() Removing the 107kph Speed Chimer Home: Removing the 107kph Speed Chimer I get a few emails now and then about the 107km speed chime that some silvias come equipped with. The following is a copy of an email reply I sent to someone asking how to remove the chime. The photos show the location of the chime, and the chime itself.
1.) Remove steering wheel. 2.) Take off plastic on steering column (5 screws on the bottom. Be sure to get the one behind the steering height adjustment lever.) 3.) Undo the 4-5 screws at the front of the plastic peice under your knees - hint: the platic peice im talking about has the bonnet release mounted to it. Only undo the screws at the front. This reveals several screws behind it. 4.) Pull out the 4 buttons on - lets call it plastic peice "X". This is the peice that has the hazard, fog light, rear wiper/blank, and rear demister switches mounted to it. Once you have pulled the switches out, disconnect them at the back. 5.) Undo all the screws holding "X" on. These are the 2-3 on the bottom now revealed, and the two up the very top above your instrument cluster. 6.) Now pull "X" out all together. Disconnect any further switches if necessary. Pulling "X" out is quite tricky because there is little space to maneuver so be patient removing it. 7.) Finally - the instrument cluster. Three screws hold it in place - 2 down the bottom and one dead in the middle up the top. Again, use caution pulling this out. Same deal as before - there is very little space to maneuver so pulling it out takes patience. 8.)The chimer is on the back of the instrument cluster. It is a little silver aluminium box approximately 2cm x 2cm. From memory there are two wires going to it: a yellow and red wire. Simply cut the wires and pull the box out. Be sure to put electrical tape on the cut ends to prevent any shorts. If you are not sure you've found the right box, simply take the car out with the instrument cluster in your lap, find a quite road, take it up to 110kph, and listen for the chimer. 9.) Put everything back together :) Thats it. You dont necessarily need to do it all in that order, thats just how I remove everything when i need to get to the instrument cluster. Hopefully my instructions are clear and dont confuse you too much :) good luck with it.
